Book:
Breeding Discontent
Breeding
Discontent is a novel I wrote with Bridgette Parker. Both
fans of author Storm Constantine's Wraeththu universe, we
wanted to explore new territory — and we created a
novel edited by Storm Constantine herself.
The Wraeththu
trilogy, first published in the late 1980s and now continuing
on with a second trilogy, tells the tale of a new species, born
out of humanity in a time of chaos. Hara, as Wraeththu are known,
are beautiful, long-lived, strong, hermaphroditic, and invested
with paranormal powers. Enlightened and free from many human foibles,
they have spread across the earth, living in tribes and, as the
tales of the Wraeththu books show, forged ahead to develop a new
society on earth.

Writers of the Storm
My
short story "The First" appears in this first-of-its-kind
volume,
Writers of the Storm, an anthology of stories by writers
other than Storm Constantine set in the world of Wraeththu.
The stories here were written for a fiction competition organized
to coincide with Grissecon, the first Wraeththu convention. The
theme of the anthology is Grissecon itself, which in the novels
means Wraeththu ritual sex magick. Naturally, because of the theme,
these stories are erotic in nature, but never crude.
My story, "The First," was the contest winner.

Wraeththu: The Picture Book
I
wrote a short introduction to Wraeththu:
the Picture Book,
a collection of photographs by Marja Kettner, inspired by the
work of fantasy author, Storm Constantine. The publisher is
LARPzeit Publishers in Germany. The models for the pictures
include Francisco Bosch, (Alexander),
Sandro Kopp (Lord of the Rings, King Kong and Chronicles
of Narnia) and Jarl Benzon (Lord of the Rings).
Text accompanying the pictures is by Storm Constantine. The
book was published this summer and I have been taking
care of sales outside of Germany, selling them directly on
behalf of the publisher.
Anthology:
Outworlders in Print
Since
2002 I've been a member of Outworlders Atlanta, a local group
for gay/lesbian/bi/trans SF/Fantasy/Horror fans. One of the
sub-groups I've participated in is the Ourworlders Writers'
Group. Every year we put out an anthology to share our work,
with most distribution taking place at the Dragon*Con convention.
I've contributed to four anthologies so far. In the latest
edition, called "Comet," I've contributed a short story called
"The Cloud-Jewel" and four poems. Past issues issues more stories
and poetry.
Event:
Dragon*Con 2006
After helping to direct the Gothic Journeys track in 2004, two years later I helped out as staff on the renamed track, Gothic Shadows. In addition to staffing the room and helping shape some of the tracks, I moderated panels on gothic fashion and alternative sexuality in genre fiction.
Event:
Grissecon @ Feencon 2005
I was invited to participate in a special "Grissecon" track as part of
Feencon, a gaming convention in Germany.
Along with Storm Constantine,
staff of Immanion Press and others, I sat on panels (often
as moderator, in German) to discuss Wraeththu, alternative sexuality
in SF/Fantasy, writing, publishing and more. I also did a reading,
from Victoria Copus' Wraeththu Mythos novel, Terzah's Sons.
I met many German fans of Wraeththu, enjoyed a wonderful Wraeththu
fashion show, and got to see the release of Wraeththu: The Picture
Book.
For full coverage of Grissecon @ Feencon, see the Summer
2005 edition of Inception, which includes my pidtures of the programming, fashion
show, after-show
fun, and parties.
Event:
Grissecon @ Lunacon 2004 & 2005
I made panel appearance at the 2004 and 2005 Lunacon convention
in New York, where I and people from Immanion Press run the "Grissecon"
programming track. I plan on taking part in the 2006 convention
as well. See coverage & pictures in the Spring
2005 editions
of Inception.
Event:
Seven Deadly Sins
In December 2004 I traveled to Germany to experience the first-ever Wraeththu
LARP. The Twilight Team, from Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany, presented "Seven
Deadly Sins" as a New Year's time con, Dec. 29, 2004 through
Jan. 1, 2005, at Castle Bilstein (Burg Bilstein bei Olpe). I was there,
along with Storm Constantine. Read
my complete report online!
Event:
Gothic Journeys @ Dragon*Con 2004
Taking place annually over Labor Day weekend here in Atlanta,
Dragon*Con is one of the
largest science fiction, fantasy and gaming cons in the U.S.
attracting around 30,000 people a year. 2004's D*C featured
a new track, called Gothic
Journeys, organized by Storm Constantine, myself and a small
cadre of others.
Gothic Journeys was an interdisciplinary track covering goth,
horror, magic, the occult, music, writing, literature and more.
Guests included writers like Jacqueline Carey, Lynn Flewelling,
Caitlin R. Kiernan, plus artists, musicians, magic practitioners,
film makers, and more.
In addition to helping to plan this convention event, I served
on about a dozen panels either as speaker or moderator.
Event:
Grissecon & U.K. Launch
of Breeding Discontent
I was featured guest at Grissecon
2003, the first ever convention for fans of Storm Constantine's
Wraeththu universe. The con was held Oct. 10-12, 2003, in Stafford,
England.
My participation included:
- opening & closing the event as "Mistress of Ceremonies";
- introducing the guests;
- participating in discussions of fan fiction, "alternative
sexuality" in fiction, the Wraeththu role-playing game
under development;,
- interviewing Storm Constantine before live audience;
- launching of Writers
of the Storm fan fiction story anthology;
- launching Breeding Discontent, my
first novel, co-written with Bridgette Parker.

Event:
Atlanta, GA, Launch
of Breeding Discontent
On Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, I hosted a launch party at my home
in Atlanta. Over 30 people attended and there was a mingling of
friends, neighbors, some of my co-workers, as well as Wraeththu,
Storm Constantine and sci-fi/fantasy fans.

Event:
Appearance + Sell/Sign
at ASFS November Meeting
I was invited to speak at the the November meeting of the Atlanta
Science Fiction Society. The event took place November 8th,
2004, 3 p.m. at the Sandy Springs Library. The topic of my talk
was "alternative sexuality in science fiction" (see
related article).
Event:
Appearance at Charis Books & More
On August 5, 2004, I gave a talk on alternative sexuality and
gender in science fiction and fantasy, similar to the one I'd
given at ASFS only more of a discussion and with more inclusion
of fantasy. The talk was held at Charis
Books & More, a feminist bookstore in Atlanta celebrating
its 30th anniversay this fall.
From Atlanta's gay paer, Southern Voice.
(BTW, despite what the blurb says,
I don't identify as a lesbian, but as bisexual.)
Editing:
Immanion Press
Based
in Stafford, England, Immanion
Press was founded in 2003 by British fantasy writer Storm
Constantine and Gabriel Strange. The idea initially was to publish
Storm Constantine's back catalogue novels, but it quickly became
obvious that there were many other avenues to explore. IP will
be publishing horror, fantasy and science fiction novels by new
and established authors.
In addition to having the novel Breeding Discontent published
through the press, I am also an editor. So far my credits include:

Exploring Alternatives
Check out the October issue of scifidimensions.com
for my aricle "Exploring
Alternatives: Alternative Sexuality in Science Fiction and Fantasy,"
examining several different science fiction and fantasy books
that explore alternative sexuality and gender. Included: Bending
the Landscape: Science Fiction, Lynn Flewelling Nightrunner
series, I by Steve Berman, and several Storm Constantine novels
and trilogies.
Web Site:
Inception
Inception
is a web site I began producing in Sept. 2001, after Storm Constantine
suggested revising her "information service" and "fan
zine" as a web site.
Since then there's been a new edition every quarter, with a huge
variety of contributions from writers, fans, poets, artists and
more.
In addition to designing, editing and promoting the zine, I have
contributed to all sections: articles and essays, poetry, artwork
and reviews.

web site.
Web Site:
Forever and Procreation
I began my Wraeththu fan fiction writing career by posting stories
to the Forever
web site and a few months ago, I actually ended up taking over
as its webmaster.
Procreation
is a web site I created for my own Wraeththu fan fiction, since
I wanted it to have its own venue and on top of that, many of
my stories were so long I didn't want to burden the then-webmaster
of Forever, Mischa. Hey, and designing web sites, is what I do...
Web Site:
Wraeththu Companion
Created by Trish as a guide to Wraeththu, the Wraeththu
Companion web site went offline for a while until I volunteered
to host it on Metro Girl.
The guide is no longer completely up to date (it doesn't cover
the new Wraeththu novels or the revisions Storm has made to the
original ones) but it's a great introduction to Wraeththu, with
guides to biology, caste training, tribes, a glossary, and more.
